A glimpse of the past

I really like this photo. It portrays a world that does not exist anymore in which boatmen used to guide their boats along the canals  with a calm peace and relying on their craft only. One can almost hear the silence of the boat floating on the water. The traditional houses on the side and the clothes wore by the boatman reinforce the idea we are really looking at the scene of the past.

These, however, are fake elements aimed at luring us into thinking we are really living during those ancient time. The only sincere element that shows us otherwise, is the white T-shirt wore by the man sitting at the restaurant who can be seen from the window on the top right of the photo. This element, which in the photo itself looks out of place and wrong, is actually the only authentic element in a scenery full of sweet lies.
